Amazing care from the Garner Clinic

I was first seen as a patient at the Garner clinic by Dr. Odland on June 3rd for a second opinion. After meeting with him, I knew I had made the right decision to seek out another opinion. He really listens to his patients and makes sure that every question you have is answered. He includes you in the decision making process and wants to make sure you are happy and fully understand the treatment plan. Surgery was the last thing I wanted to do and, not expecting to see him again unless I had problems, I came home that night and told my husband that any future orthopedic care I needed I would be continuing my care with him.

I recently had a total hip at your facility and just want you to know how very happy I am with everyone I came in contact with, on my pre-op appointment day, my surgical day, and my care as an inpatient. I really can’t say enough good things about your staff! Everyone was very caring and friendly. They made my husband and I feel very comfortable throughout the whole process. I don’t recall all the names of the staff, but do want to mention a few that made an impact on my care.

The registration gals were great! They were both so friendly and went out of their way to make sure all my questions were answered. The waiting area was very busy both times I was there and it didn’t appear to phase them. They made sure everyone was helped and where they were suppose to be with smiles on their faces! They set the tone for the rest of your experience!

Several members of the nursing team - Destiny, Diamond, Karen and Krystle - made my stay much more comfortable than I was anticipating. They were knowledgeable, friendly, and caring, not only to me but also my husband. They made sure he was taken care of just as much as I was as the patient. That was impressive to me! They made sure the littlest of things, like brushing your teeth, were offered to me to bigger things like making sure my pain was under control. They are an awesome asset to your team!

Rachel in Occupational Therapy was very pleasant. She took the time to make sure we knew how to use all the gadgets we were sent home with to make our life easier during the recovery process. She was never in a hurry and went over it as many times as needed and gave lots of helpful hints. We really appreciated her help!

Scott in Pharmacy was awesome in explaining all the meds I was going home with to both of us. He truly wanted to make sure we had no questions and even offered to walk my husband to the Pharmacy to pick up my meds. He made that whole process so much easier for both of us when we got home! So thankful for that!

Once again, I want to reiterate how much I appreciate the time and compassion Dr. Odland takes not only with his patients but also their families! He’s a huge asset to Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics!

I wish I could remember everyone’s names I came in contact with, but please know that from the volunteers, registration, lab, PT, OT, RT, nursing staff, OR staff and physicians, you truly have a dedicated team that work together for the betterment of the patient and their family!!
