Be Gracious

To be gracious is to be kind, courteous, and compassionate. For most of us with children, we spend hours, days and years trying to drill this into them. Like most good life lessons, this one is learned by example, by watching those around you. For those of you who have children in sports this equates to the good sportsmanship that we are striving for after each event. We have all seen wonderful examples of this as well as examples that fall far short. Each scenario provides “lessons” to learn from for our children.

At Iowa Specialty Hospitals and Clinics, being gracious is foundational to the care we provide. Kindness and compassion should be our leading principles in every patient interaction we have, and if they are not, it is time to step back and remember why you were called to healthcare in the first place. You are here for a specific reason, not by accident. Each patient deserves the very best we can give them as that is the reason we are all here; to make this world a better place by being gracious. This week I challenge you to remember your reason for being in healthcare and let kindness and compassion lead you.
