Be Yourself
One of the biggest lessons I have learned while raising my kids is that teaching them to be themselves is much harder than it seems. There are so many external pressures that nudge us to act one way or another. I have been fortunate to be able to point out some of these examples as they occur to help them find the path back to who they really are and what they stand for. I probably see it more with the girls where they either pretend to be something they are not, or they are influenced by who they hang out with to make decisions that they know better than to make. The very definition of peer pressure. Although it is definitely a bumpy road, it is so rewarding to see them find their true personalities and become more authentically themselves.
The same could be said of Iowa Specialty Hospitals and Clinics! It may have taken us some years to truly define who we are and what we stand for, but I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else. We had the privilege of talking to all the new interns this week and sharing our stories of how we have ended up in our roles in the organization. Although we all took different paths, there was a common theme of limitless possibilities to chase your dreams. We are like a large family who genuinely cares for each other and our patients. Healthcare is a difficult and challenging field to work in, but by being true to ourselves we are able to set ourselves apart from the rest. We are Iowa Specialty Hospitals and Clinics, and I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this team.
